DIY Upholstered Bed

So I have been oogling this Crate and Barrel bed for over a year now:

since I saw it on this post on Aubrey and Lindsay's Little House Blog here:
but had a tough time swallowing the the hefty price tag until I saw diy's at Centsational Girl here

and then when I saw Kari's DIY bed at Beautiful Inspirations bed here

I knew this was a to-do project for this year but finding the time to do it was tough as it's been crazy busy with other house reno's and landscaping but enough was enough I wanted this bed!! I contacted Kari and she was kind enough to pass along the instructions :-) ....so here we go

so we built around the metal frame that we have been sleeping on the past 2 years (can't believe I lasted that long).  We put in the slates (2x4's) for extra support.
for the legs we really struggled with finding nice legs that would be big enough so we bought a 4x4 cut them and angled them to give them a little shape.  easy!
for the headboard we really wanted to make it sturdy so as you can see here we have "doubled-up" with the plywood in the front.  We cut down the angles with a jig saw which was  a little tricky to make sure that both sides looked even but once we coverd it with the foam and batting you couldn't even notice any imperfections.
Love the shape! It was funny, I kept asking Derik to angle it more here and this spot is sticking out but he was right, once the foam and batting went on you couldn't notice those grooves.

However, that will have to wait as I have been backoned to help clean out the garage :-)  More pics soon!!!
